Drug maker Pfizer Inc. is facing legal challenges over its erectile dysfunction drug Viagra (sildenafil) that it says it plans to sell to the US market in the next few years.
Pfizer said it had filed an application with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) seeking approval to sell the drug for the first time. Pfizer said in a filing Tuesday that it had received regulatory approval from the agency for its "off-label use."
Viagra is the first non-prescription version of the drug that the FDA has approved for sale in the US. It is also the second erectile dysfunction drug to be marketed in the US.
